About the Author
Gregory Drambour’s interest in the Native American culture bloomed in the California dessert sixteen years ago when he met his spirit brothers of the animal world. They led him to South Dakota, where he immediately felt at home. His experiences with teachers in that ancient land and his growing awareness that it is not what you do but how you do it that brings joy to your life, led him to wanting to share his spiritual journey with others. This is his first book.

*My close relative was personally guided by Gregory Drambour during a spirit quest experience. I had to find out for myself what this medicine did for her as she appeared changed on the inside (in the best possible way). I could not put the book down until it was finish. Recommend for the spiritual seekers who's lives are ready to be transformed. Possibly advanced or esoteric for non believers.

There We’ll Wait

You know what I love? The spaces between I love you. The tap of your fork against the plate and how my cup of wine clicks against our table. The scratchy voice coming from the radio in the other room. The quiet sound of your hand reaching across the table and whispering over mine. How your voice sounds like your mouth on the back of my neck. The soft murmur of our easy conversation.

Between these quiet Tuesday night routines, following every comma and right after every pause for breath, is I, love, and you. In the middle of every I love you is a sink full of dishes, whisper of socked feet tangled in white sheets, and gentle kisses against curved cheeks. We lyric ourselves into the laundry that needs to be finished, into the ends of every smile that follows me repeating your name. We write ourselves into the grocery bags we need to carry, the cracks running up our rented walls, the sides of the bed we choose to drag up the sails of heavy eyed dreams.

Like the spaces between our fingers, in the spaces between I, love, and you, we wait.

The in-betweens have always been my favorite.

If you have ever loved, lost

Komar’s poetry collection affected me greatly. I not only connected with her prose but I felt her words. It’s as if she crafted the words, thoughts and feelings with the emotion I carry in my heart as well as life experiences. If you have ever loved, lost, failed, endured, you will undoubtedly find solace and correlation to many in her collection. A panoramic glimpse of life, a kaleidoscope in variety.

Simple yet profound, you will find Komar’s poetry filled with raw emotion and truth. She writes what the masses feel, eloquently presented. All ages will enjoy verses filled with joy, melancholy, a nudge remembering the past, a moment in time reflected, no matter you will find pleasure in Komar’s numerous poems.

A beautiful collection I encourage all to explore, both tactile and visual stunning the peruser. Marlen Komar is clearly a gifted poetress, I look forward to reading more from this �ber talented woman.

I really enjoyed this poetry book.
I wasn't expecting to enjoy poetry so much. When I think poetry I think Baudelaire or Verlaine. Gifted poets, but their poetry can sometimes be difficult to read, if you know what I mean. But this is different. It made me see poetry in a different light.
I really was in awe with her writing style. It's about heartbreak, romance, life and daydreams. I connected a lot with her poetry. In fact, it's really to connect with her work : if you've loved someone than lost him, felt your heart shattered then her poems will sound familiar to you. For some poems, it felt like she has written my own thoughts; it's really powerful. It's beautifully written, intricate and delicate.
Each word is chosen carefully, enlightening the feelings felt by the narrator or the reader.

I wanted to savor those poems so I read a few every day. It appears to me as the best way to truly appreciate them.

here is a list of my favorites :
- Fix your holes
- Don't. Do
- Come, quick
- Bravery found underneath a street lamp
- A rather cold tuesday afternoon
- It won't be me
- Watching the sky fall (asleep)

and this is one of my top 3 favorites :

It won't be me

What if the constellations are actually fracture in the night sky, thin silvery veins racing across a glass holding back bruising shadows; eddies of history and rust. An atlas of- not roads and maps- but legends, feverish prayers, quiet poetry. Cast off hopes and dead devotions. What if it only took one person to throw a rock against the glass to shatter it and open us to never.

The question is : who of us is gentle enough to do it ?

To be honest, I found it quite difficult to review Ugly People Beautiful Hearts. I had trouble finding the right words to encompass my feelings for this poetry collection. I’m going to say this now to get it out of the way: my review of this book will be bad, brief, and will in no way do justice to the beauty of its poems.

Marlen Komar’s amazing writing is evident right from the get-go. Each word is chosen carefully and purposefully, strung together with other words and then structured in a manner that maximized the emotions leaking out of me. Not really the best use of imagery but I swear, that was how it felt like while I was reading the poems.

Out of the 70 or so poems included in Ugly People Beautiful Hearts, these few stayed with me, and I haven’t been able to stop thinking about them ever since.

The one thing that I didn’t particularly enjoy in Ugly People Beautiful Hearts was the book’s formatting. There was no distinction between the title of the poem and the poem itself. It isn’t really a big deal but I still wish that the title had been separated from the rest of the poem.

In A Nutshell:

Ugly People Beautiful Hearts is a powerful poetry collection and I highly recommend it. I urge you all to read, understand, and absorb the poems inside this book because each one is a stunning painting of words. Aaaand, that’s all I have to say.

Here Comes Jack Frost is an amazing book! The illustrations are captivating and the story is fabulous. This is a great book for adults and children. The little boy starts out being quite unhappy about winter, but strange patterns appear on his window and then the magic begins. Jack, the boy, and, his dog have adventurous fun all winter long until the arrival of spring. This book should be in every child's home library.

Beautiful, Sensitive and Unique Winter Story

This is a bittersweet touching book about a boy's encounter with Jack Frost. For me it was about living in the moment and the fleeting joys of winter and ultimately, life. The illustrations are lovely and it makes for a quick read, nice for a goodnight story. It's a sweet, sensitive tale, and I think it would make a great Holiday gift.

Wonderful Winter Story

It's the illustrations that shine here- the simple artwork is very engaging and perfectly complements the magical little story of Jack Frost. It's the perfect book for the end of winter when everyone needs a reminder that Spring is just around the corner. I loved this authors book Ghosts in the House and this one is just as wonderful. It's great for group sharing; kids in my groups were full of questions about Jack Frost. A solid choice for post-holiday winter story times for preschoolers.

About the Author
Robh Ruppel has designed for video games, feature films and animation, and theme parks. Uncharted 2 and 3 from video game developer Naughty Dog won Best Art Direction; both of which Robh art directed. While at Disney Animation Studios, he worked on Mulan, Brother Bear, and Meet the Robinsons. He has also worked for Dreamworks, Blue Sky, Disney TV Animation (TRON Uprising) and Paramount (Star Trek, the ride). Ruppel has taught at Art Center College of Design, Gnomon and Concept Design Academy. He has received Gold and Silver awards from the Spectrum Fantasy Art Annual and has already been published in several other annuals and collections. When not painting, he paints.

Beautiful Graphic L.A.

[[VIDEOID:mo2ALK5M4PN6MRQ]]I started following Robh Ruppel's art ever since I learned that he was behind the art direction of Uncharted 2. Back then, I was mesmerised by the staging and composition of the game's environment art from The Art of Uncharted 2: Among Thieves artbook. Robh Ruppel has a way of framing scenes such that they always look so inviting. So it's great to see this new book from him.

Many of the artworks in Graphic L.A. have appeared previously on his blog The Broadview Blog. There are additional art as well as many sketches included. The drawn subjects are mostly urban scenes from Los Angeles, hence the title of the book.

In Graphic L.A., Robh Ruppel adopts a more graphical approach to creating his illustrations. The emphasis is on breaking down scenes into geometric shapes and symbols, focus on getting the correct tonal values, and then working with that in mind to create a graphic representation of a scene. It's sort of similar to how some watercolour artists think about shapes for their paintings.

The artworks are stylised and beautiful. There's even a vector quality to his artworks that is characterised by sharp edges. The colour scheme is very tastefully done. The paintings remind me of photographs that are treated with some colour filters, or those from old school film cameras. This more vector-like style with strong symbolism is a departure from his other painterly style, which you can see in his earlier artbook Aspect Ratio and older works from his blog's archive.

There are quite a few sketches included and they are experimentation and exploration of values, shapes and silhouette. They remind me of another book Framed Ink which also touts the importance of having good value design.

Where the book falls short would be in the area of instructions and insight. The use of white space is usually plastered by tips in large typefaces. There are good tips as well as vague tips that could do with more elaboration. Some of the insightful information that I read on his blog are not in the book. I wished there could be more shared on techniques, and especially on how he thinks about colour schemes.

It's a beautiful artbook. I enjoy looking at how other artists use composition to frame their drawings, in this case Robh Ruppel is a master at doing so.

Beautiful work, amazing use of three point perspective

This man is a genuine master. Beautiful work, amazing use of three point perspective, and clear about how to graphically break down shapes, perspective & tone. With laconic accuracy which includes a series of step-by-step illustrations of his process, you can witness an image go from a thumbnail sketch to a final painting. If values, shapes, and perspective is what you are looking for then this is the "ne plus ultra" on the subject.

But why four-stars? (I could not do 3.5 stars)

Color palette is never addressed, hue is completely absent from the discussion; not illustrated at all. Frustrating since the artist has obviously mastered that subject as well but is completely silent on the subject.

Hue also has value (tone) and the two subjects are nearly synonymous. This book could have been a "grand slam" and a "no-hitter" but rather it is just a home run.

This is a beautiful book, but do not expect to read it

This is a beautiful book, but do not expect to read it, there is next to nothing to read. You will find 18 totally blank pages, 12 pages with less than 10 words and the longest text you can get is the one you can read using the Amazon look inside feature.
The book is just a collection of thumbnail sketches and great urban illustrations, not necessarily related to each other, and short sentences around the single main advice: "simple design, forced into the fewest values". The reason I still give it 2 stars is because I am happy to keep it just as a beautiful graphical art book. I do not give it the third star because it is expensive for what it is, specially for you can see most of the images on Robh Ruppel's blog, and with much more insight, for free.
Nevertheless, you could be happy too getting the physical thing, just know what you will get for your money.

NeoLiberal Nightmare

City Come a Walkin' should be a neoliberal nightmare. The big banks, run by the mob, have displaced the government in the United States (no other country is mentioned). Digital credit, manipulated by the banks, has superseded money, which is all but banned. The final usurpation of power and the consolidation of a new criminal cartel is being plotted by mob bosses in the major cities of the nation. The corporatized criminals - the Mafioso-bankers - work in clandestine conjunction with culturally right-wing vigilantes, who brutally repress alternative forms of popular expression from pop concerts to prostitution. (Sound familiar?) Cities and their populations have been ravaged by the mob and their fascist conspirators. The venal destruction of the rich historic urban texture of the old is brilliantly contrasted to the enervating banality of the new.

Those who love urban life and who constitute its originality are represented in the novel respectively by Stu Cole, a hard-bitten classic noir individualist and club owner and his star performer Catz Wailen. Both use their particular geniuses to resist the irresistible cultural depredations of the mob. The most memorable character of the novel is, however, City. City is the reified psyche of San Francisco's population, the personification the city's communal angst. It is the city come to life. City, manifesting himself to Cole on a television explains himself: "A TV is a media outlet for the city. A neuron in my brain. The means I use to transfer the image from video to electron-patterns, bring it through the wires and feed it into you TV--it's a form of telekinesis. Manipulating electronics with thought. At night I have the power in every cerebral battery in the city. A brain stores electricity. I can tap in, when they sleep. During the day I have only the power of those who sleep in the day--far fewer, so I am limited. Though I'm bolstered by people watching TV, since that's a form of sleeping. I'm the sum total of the unconscious cognition of every brain in the city. And I'm Rufe Roscoe [the mob's CEO], too--I'm his self-hatred." (58)

The human characters of the novel are moral creatures: the protagonists are moral, the villain is immoral. In contrast, City, like the population from which he draws his life, is amoral. He acts, often savagely and indiscriminately, only in his own interests, in defense of the creative diversity that sustains urban life. Shirley's story is compelling not because of the plot and only partially because of the pace and grittiness of his writing. It is powerful because of its uncanny evocation of the dangers that affect the cities we love to inhabit.

There Goes the Neighborhood

Literally! What a book. In itself it's not scary - but its implications are terrorizing. William Gibson wrote the Forward in the edition I read - acknowledging Shirley's primary influence on cyberpunk. This is an early book of his, but while some of the writing is rough, the thoughts he puts to paper are powerful.

Other reviews will tell you about the book (the Amazon description is horrible). There are three main characters. The interaction and flow among them is very fascinating. I couldn't wait for the book to end so I could know how Shirley tied up the loose ends; I didn't want the book to end because I was having so much fun.

If you enjoy reflecting on a book after you have read it, then this is a very good catalyst. I heartily recommend it.

Somewhat clunky execution; rather interesting ideas

In a nutshell, the plot can be summed up as follows: The Mafia conspires to take over San Francisco. The citizen's collective unconscious, as embodied in City, fights back.

While the plot and prose can be awkward in places, the concepts, and how they are explored, kept me strongly interested. The work is also permeated with little details that give it a distinct cyberpunk atmosphere. This can be fascinating in its own right in light of later works in the genre.

About the Author

Gabriel Alfonso Rincon-Mora was a Senior Integrated Circuit (IC) Design Team Leader for Texas Instruments from 1994 – 2003. He was appointed an Adjunct Professor at the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1999, and became a full-time faculty member in 2001. Since 2011, Dr. Rincon-Mora has also been a visiting professor at National Cheng Kung University in Taiwan. He has published 140 papers in scientific publications, written eight books, and has more than 26 commercial power chip designs. Dr. Rincon-Mora is an IEEE Fellow "for contributions to energy and power integrated circuit design" and an Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) Fellow. His research is on the design and development of silicon-based integrated circuits (ICs) that draw and condition power from tiny batteries, fuel cells, and energy-harnessing generators to supply mobile, portable, and self-sustaining devices like wireless microsensors for biomedical, consumer, industrial, and military applications.

It does covered the contented I was looking for for LDO design. However, it also contains a lots of basic Analog IC Design stuff which can be found in most analog IC design books. To me, this part is a little redundant since I am looking for LDO design information.
