Arun K. Ghosh (PhD, Physics, Calcutta University; Postdoctoral Fellow, Rice University, Houston, Texas) is Visiting Professor, Sir J.C. Bose School of Engineering, Hooghly. Earlier, he served as Head, Instrumentation Centre, University of Kalyani; Principal, Murshidabad College of Engineering and Technology, Berhampur; and Principal, Bengal College of Engineering and Technology, Durgapur.

A distinguished teacher, Professor Ghosh has over 26 years of teaching experience and has published 35 research papers in journals of national and international repute.

Excellent alternative to US based books on control theory

Most books I have on control theory are written by US authors and tend on the whole to be very similar in content especially the more modern ones. This book however was written by an author from India and therefore the perspective is slightly different, including additional theorems I was unaware of. This is a good thing. In the past Indian books tended to be printed rather cheaply but this book is of good quality.

For Great Book, Buy Hardcopy, NOT Kindle Version

I have multiple copies of this book in print version, but Kindle version is very disappointing. The book requires you to cross reference the day of the year in the back with the specific meditation, which is numbered sequentially. With the book version, it's very easy--typically I even leave a paperclip marking the appendix at the back, look up number for today's date, then refer to it. Very difficult to do in Kindle version. And, sadly, author/publisher didn't link dates to pages which would have been the logical step to take.

I LOVE this book--hard copy it gets a 5-Star, but Kindle version very poor.

The finest book on Taoism since the Tao te Ching

I have had this book in my collection since it was first published. Well, not actually this particular book, pages and cover and all. Paper books come and go with changes in life -- new work, new homes, new responsibilities, new leisure, new joys and concerns -- but Ming-Dao Deng's calm but not dispassionate collection of observations is my staple. Its availability as an e-book only makes it better. The day-by-day format works perfectly on my smartphone. It somehow has a more lasting presence, not being dependent on the physical necessity of a paper page. I'm definitely pro-book, but some wisdoms, like this one, travel better (in my experience) than conventional books I like the relatively recent new cover, also. It well captures the sense of 365 Tao. My delight is complete -- and as a Taoist, I am fulfilled. My only question: what to do in a leap year? Does the Tao mysteriously grow another day? ;-)

It's like an endless march of souls through eternity. If you are standing in an infinitely long line of souls, how can you say that your position is superior to others?

When there is no head and no end to the line, it doesn't matter what place you hold. Therefore it is foolish to look down on those standing behind. They now occupy the place where you once stood.

Instead of pride, you should feel compassion. If you cannot remember this, then just think of all the people ahead of you. You aspire to their place, and you should work diligently.

There is injustice in this world, yes. But there is no need to add to it. When you see someone less fortunate than you, express compassion. When you see someone more advanced than you, try to learn from them. Any other feelings are superfluous."

Entertaining and Inspirational!

I really enjoyed this book! It is very well written and captured my imagination from beginning to end! Many of the challenges that the main character (Morlen) overcomes can be applied to those challenges that we all face today. His eventual triumphs and development into a heroic figure are a testament to the virtues patience, resilience and faith despite all odds!

I highly recommend this entertaining and inspiring book!

A superb fantasy tale!

I first have to give kudos to Murray for his superb world-building skills. It is no easy feat for a reader to jump from one world into another. (The book that I read before this one was Hill's 'The Fireman', and I was completely immersed within that story...) However, Murray immediately sucked me into the world that he has created, and I never once looked back!

With names such as Morlen, Felkoth, Nottleforf, and Roftome, and items such as the Goldshard, the Crystal Spear, and the Dark Blade, and enemies known as Shriekers and Ferotaurs, you are immediately thrust into this superb fantasy tale!

Beginning with a fragile alliance between the city of Korindelf and Veldere, where the Eaglemasters reside, and with war brewing along their borders, you have no choice but to hold on for the ride!

If you are a fan of fantasy, then this one is a must-read! If you are a fan of Robin Hobb, then I suggest that you give Murray a shot, as there were some similarities, before Murray completely made it all his own. And for fans of Terry Goodkind, Murray explains the title of the book, brilliantly, just like one of Goodkind's "Wizard's Rules".

Murray dropped several hints, within this story, where he will take us in future books, and I for one am looking forward to the next book!

Does a poor job, but there is value

Used this book for one semester and didn't enjoy it. The examples in the text are inadequate and a bunch of situations arose where there was not enough data given to solve a problem. The text is well written and I thought the accident stories, although tragic, were a great reinforcement to the material being presented. I feel that this is a great book for those of you that learn well from reading the material; however, for people like me, it is not a great book for those of us who like to practice problems to learn the material. Good luck.

I used this for a upper-division wastewater collection and water distribution class and here are my thoughts:

Pros:
-plenty of material (equations) that is useful
-comes with software
-relatively inexpensive

Cons:
-examples are poorly worked out
-chapter problems are terribly hard to work out and may not relate to what is explained in the corresponding chapter
-material is poorly conveyed and chapters are not organized efficiently
